A new Gmail bug is reportedly annoying some users with a frequent question asking if they want to “continue receiving messages from this sender.” According to a report by 9to5Google, Google has recently been made aware of the situation which reportedly started showing the message earlier. Some users have also taken to Twitter to complain about this issue.
The problem here is the banner is appearing for affected users very frequently which is designed for suspicious senders. However, the affected users have mentioned that the banner is even appearing for mails received from known senders including Google Calendar’s event alerts. As per the report, the tech giant has assured its users that its “engineering team continues to investigate the issue.”
How does the message banner look
As per the report, the grey message banner appears at the top of an email that “features an exclamation point in a hexagon.” Users can respond with yes or no on this banner and are also provided with a link to the help article.
The message reads, “Do you want to continue receiving messages from this sender? Please give us feedback about this message. We won’t ask you about this sender again, although you can always unsubscribe or mark it as spam in the future.”
What Google has to say about it
Google has explained that there is an “impacted time range” for this Gmail bug. This means that users are experiencing this issue only when they received the emails at a particular time. Moreover, the company has also confirmed that “this issue affects both Gmail consumers and Enterprise customers.” The report also claims that this problem wasn’t replicated on checking on several accounts which suggests that this issue might not be very widespread.
