How to block strangers from messaging on Instagram

A direct message from someone you don’t follow on Instagram or who isn’t in your contact list appears in the Message requests section. Message requests must be accepted before they appear in your chat list. Messages from people you follow on Instagram, on the other hand, go straight to your chat list.

Instagram introduced the message blocking feature to prevent unknown parties from sending messages to other users. Potential stalkers frequently send explicit or demeaning messages or react to stories to harass users, and this problem has existed for a long time. Their messages appear in the Instagram app’s message requests section.

1.

Open the Instagram app.

2.

Go to your profile.

3.

Tap on three horizontal lines at the top right corner of the screen.

4.

Go to Settings.

5.

Tap on the Privacy option.

6.

Go to the Messages option under the Interactions tab.

7.

Tap on Others on Instagram under the other people tab.

8.

Check on the Don’t receive requests option under the Deliver requests to tab.

While most users ignore message requests, seeing an abusive or harassing comment every now and then can be unpleasant. This is where the block feature comes in as it addresses the problem by limiting direct messages to people you follow. Others are immediately barred from sending any messages, whether it’s a friendly comment on your story or a harassing remark.
