How to check if it’s linked or not
The government of India, as per section 139AA of the Income Tax Act 1961, made it mandatory for all citizens of the country to link their permanent account number (PAN) with their Aadhaar number.
The deadline to link your PAN with Aadhaar is set as March 31 and failing to do so will render their PAN inoperative from March 31, 2023 onwards.
While, the government is offering an additional grace period for users to link their PAN and Aadhaar and allow them to use their PAN for transactions, filing ITR, etc, a late fee will be levied to the users.
According to CBDT, users will be charged a late fee of Rs 500 if they link their PAN with Aadhaar within the next three months. After three months, the late fee will increase to Rs 1,000.
Now, this is not a new guideline and the government has already extended the deadline several times due to the pandemic. So, in case you don’t remember whether you’ve linked your PAN with Aadhaar or not and want to check the linking status, here’s our step-by-step guide for you.
