How to enable dark mode for Google Maps on iOS
Google announced Dark Mode for the iOS version of Google Maps a couple of months back and it is already available for users running the latest version of the app.
However, Google Maps on iOS does not automatically detect the iPhone’s default setting for Light or Dark mode. What that means is if you turn on system-wide dark mode from the iPhone’s Display & Brightness settings, Google Maps won’t automatically switch to Dark mode.
A solution to the issue is enabling the dark mode for Google Maps manually and here’s our step-by-step guide:
Pre-requisites:
Steps to enable dark mode in Google Maps for iOS
Open Google Maps and tap on your profile picture at the top right corner
In case you don’t have your profile picture set in Google Account, the first initial of your name will appear in a circle instead of the profile picture.
Tap on Settings under Using Maps section
Here you’ll find the Dark Mode option
Tap on the option and you will again see three options — On, Off and Same as device
To enable dark mode manually, choose the On option.
That’s it, the entire Google Map will start appearing in Dark mode irrespective of iPhone’s mode. The menu and the entire user interface quickly adopt the dark mode profile.
In case you want to make the entire thing work with the iPhone’s profile, then choose Same as device and Google Map will play along with the iPhone’s profile settings going forward.
