How to enable ‘Smart Lock’ on your Android smartphone – Times of India

Introduction
iPhones and Android smartphones come with built-in password protection solutions, including pattern locks, passcode locks, PIN locks, fingerprint locks, and Face ID. Since, people are now more concerned about their privacy and security of their smartphones, setting up a lock pattern or passcode has become a necessity.
Android smartphones come with an option, called Smart Lock, that enables users to skip the step to access apps and services.
Smart Lock on Android
Google users can use the Smart Lock feature with Chromebooks, Android devices, the Chrome browser, and a few apps. The stock feature disables the PIN or passcode when you use the phone while moving your body, when you are in a trusted place, or when you are using a trusted device (such as a wearable device). This feature enables three options for easy unlocking of the phone:

On-body detection: If you’ve already unlocked your phone once, it will continue to be unlocked whenever you are holding or carrying it. You won’t have to unlock your phone again until your phone is in your pocket.
Trusted places: With this feature, you can select specific locations where your phone will never display a lock screen or request authentication. The function creates a trusted location using your GPS sensor.
Trusted devices: When you know that the phone will always be under your control, you can instruct the phone to bypass the lock screen whenever it is connected to a particular Bluetooth device (smartwatch, headphones, etc.).
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you enable ‘Smart Lock’ on your Android smartphone:

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings menu.
  2. Then, go to the Password and Security tab.
  3. Tap on the System security option.
  4. Under the Device Security tab, tap on the Smart Lock option.
  5. Enter your Lock screen password.
  6. Then, select the On-body detection tab and activate the Use On-body detection toggle.
  7. Select the Trusted Places option on the previous page.
  8. By tapping the Add Trusted Places button, you can add your trusted locations.
  9. Return to the previous page and choose the Trusted devices option from there.
  10. Select the Add trusted device option on the following page to add them.
  11. Once the setup is complete, the Smart Lock feature will be enabled on your Android smartphone.
