How to hide or disable the ‘online’ indicator for your Instagram account
Instagram users have to be more careful. This messaging platform shows your followers (who you follow back) the last time you were active on the app. The ‘Activity Status’ feature of Instagram reveals your online status on the Meta-owned messaging platform. A similar feature is also available on other messaging platforms like — WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The status option shows the users you have DMed, the last time you were active and if you are currently active. If you are followed by someone but you don’t follow them back, they probably wouldn’t be able to see your activity. You can also find your followers’ status when you go to your DMs.
Although this feature is usually enabled by default on all Instagram accounts, it is better to check and be careful. By disabling the Instagram online indicator you can browse freely throughout the platform without the fear of being followed. If you have multiple Instagram accounts, you have to disable this function for each account individually. Here are the steps that you can follow to disable your online indicator on Instagram from the app and the web browser.
Open the Instagram app on either your Android or iOS device. Go to your Profile section by tapping the profile image present on the lower right corner of your screen.
Tap on the three horizontal bars and select Settings from the menu.
Go to Privacy and look for Activity Status. Here, you will find a toggle switch for the Show Activity Status option (which is enabled by default). You can use the toggle switch to turn it off.
Visit instagram.com on your PC browser and log in to your account.
Click on the profile pic icon present in the upper right corner of your display and go to Settings.
Look for the Privacy and Security option here and click on it. To disable the function, you have to uncheck the box beside the Show Activity Status option.
