How to set up emergency location sharing on Android – Times of India
What is emergency location sharing
Android offers emergency service information about an already assigned emergency contact from the lock screen. The contacts can also be informed by pressing and holding the power button of a smartphone. Depending on the phone you have and the Android version it runs, the setup may vary slightly, but the fundamentals should remain the same.
Adding medical information on Android
The emergency location sharing feature has been around for a long time and helps users make an emergency call to 112. But now, the in-built emergency location sharing feature also allows users to add their medical information, including blood type, health conditions, medical reports, and more, that can aid sick people in getting help at the earliest. It’s the kind of feature we hope we never need, but having it handy can be very helpful.
Here’s how you set up the in-built Emergency SOS feature to share location along with medical details in case of an emergency:
- Press and hold the power button of your smartphone for a few seconds.
- Then, tap on the Emergency
SOS button available at the bottom of the screen. - After that, your smartphone will automatically make an emergency call to 112. Cancel that.
- Then, tap on the Medical Information option available at the bottom of your screen, along with other options.
- Add all of your medical details that can be used in case of an emergency.
- Once completed, hit the Done button.
Apple also launched the Emergency SOS feature with the iPhone 14 series of smartphones. It helps users send a message to first responders when they do not have a cellular connection.
