How to turn off Siri suggestions

While people tend to think of Siri as a voice assistant first and foremost, it’s actually present in a subtler way throughout Apple platforms, in the form of suggestions for apps, actions, searches, and more. Here’s how to turn off Siri suggestions entirely or just for specific apps.

To turn off Siri suggestions on iPhones and iPads, open the Settings app and tap Siri and Search. Toggle one or more options off under Suggestions From Apple. To turn off Siri suggestions on Macs, navigate to Apple > System Preferences > Siri > Siri Suggestions and Privacy, then uncheck everything you don’t want.


How to completely turn off Siri suggestions

On iPhone and iPad

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select Siri and Search.
  • Scroll down again until you find a section marked Suggestions From Apple.
  • Flip one or more of the toggles available. These include notifications, suggestions when sharing, suggestions when listening, and suggestions in Spotlight and the App Library.

On Mac

  • Navigate to Apple > System Preferences > Siri.
  • Click on Siri Suggestions and Privacy.
  • Uncheck any items you don’t want.

How to turn off Siri app suggestions

Siri normally uses machine learning on iPhones and iPads to suggest apps based on context. For instance, recommending the Roku app if you always put on the TV at the same time each day. You can control whether or not specific apps are suggested or limit where those suggestions appear.

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select Siri and Search.
  • Under Suggestions From Apple, find the app you’re concerned with.
  • Turn off Learn from this App if you don’t want suggestions.
  • For more granular control, you can leave it on but toggle off Show on Home Screen, Suggest App, and/or Suggestion Notifications.
