How to use, things to note and more

Expanding on its disappearing messages feature, the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has started rolling out a similar feature for photos and videos as well. WhatsApp is calling it View once and photos and videos sent with the feature turned on disappear from the chat after the receiver has seen it.

What is WhatsApp View once feature
WhatsApp View once feature is similar to disappearing messages, except it disappears from the chat as soon as the receiver has seen it. What it means is that the photo or video sent with the View once option enabled can only be viewed once. It works a lot like Instagram’s Vanish Mode.

Things you should know about WhatsApp View once

  • The shared media file will not be saved in the recipient’s gallery
  • The View once photos and videos can only be viewed once, there’s no way to see it again unless the sender resends it.
  • View once media can’t be forwarded, saved, starred or shared.
  • The View once media automatically disappears from the chat if not opened within 14 days
  • View once media can be restored from backup if the message is unopened at the time of backup. If the photo or video has already been opened, the media will not be included in the backup and can’t be restored.
  • Screenshots or screen recording is possible even for View once media.
