How to use your smartphone as a webcam for TV

Reliance Jio has recently announced a new feature for its broadband customers that allows them to use smartphones as webcams to make video calls using their JioFiber connection on smart TVs.

The feature works for both Android as well as Apple iPhones via the JioJoin app. This eliminates the need to buy a separate webcam compatible with smart TVs.

If you are thinking about how the feature works and how you can use your smartphone and smart TV to host group video calls or personal video calls on TV, follow our step-by-step guide.

What do you need to use your smartphone as a webcam to make video calls on TV
The first thing you will need is an Android or iOS device with a JioJoin app installed in it. Do note that the app is available in respective app stores and is free to download. Next, you’ll need a JioFiber connection with the Jio Set-Top box for this entire feature to work.

How to set up the JioJoin app and connect smartphone as a webcam to TV

1.

Download and install the JioJoin app on your smartphone and TV. Then log in using JioFiber landline number

2.

Now, you need to enable the ‘camera on mobile’ feature from the app which can be found in the app’s setting

Also, ensure that both the smart TV and the smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

3.

Once everything is done, open the JioJoin app on your TV, select the contact and initiate the video call

4.

The TV will automatically start discovering the camera and show you the list of available camera options

Here, choose your smartphone as the webcam on TV and allow the prompt on your smartphone to provide access to your smartphone’s camera.

That’s it. Your video call will go through and it will use your smartphone as the webcam.
