How will this upcoming Xbox feature work
As per the tweet shared by Marie, this new feature will add two badges on screens where users can find the games — which are available on the home screen or the game library. This feature will show users an exclamation mark on a game’s thumbnail if it is unplayable due to licensing issues. These issues tend to appear when a game is taken off of the Game Pass or if the user is not logged into the Xbox Live account associated with the game. On the other hand, if players need to insert a disc before playing a game, the thumbnail will show an icon with a crossed-out disc. Marie even states that right now the feature is only available for people in the Xbox Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider groups, which Microsoft says are usually “invite-only.”
Importance of the new Xbox feature
The report claims that this feature can be useful as it will inform users about the game that they can play. This will also help users to avoid a situation where users find a game in the library and wants to play it, but are met with a “not-so-helpful” error message, the report suggests.
Meanwhile, when asked about the clarity of these error messages, Marie replied that the team will “continue to try and improve the error messages that appear when a game fails to launch to be more specific and clear.” Moreover, she added, “a few new error types are included with this test, but others (like recognising exactly that a game has left Game Pass) will require more work in upcoming releases.”
Furthermore, when another Twitter user commented asking for buttons that allow users to remove content they can no longer play from their library, Marie mentioned that more improvements will be added in the coming days and that the icons that are currently in testing are a “necessary first step.” The report also suggests that nowadays, “owing a game” has become much different from what it was over the past few years and console makers addressing some of the confusions that players might face is an essential step forward.
