hyperlapse: These two standalone Instagram apps are no longer available on iPhones and Android phones – Times of India

Meta-owned Instagram has removed two of its standalone apps – Boomerang and Hyperlapse from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. As reported by TechCrunch, these apps can no longer be downloaded from the app stores. The development comes days after Instagram pulled off the plug from the IGTV app.
Hyperlapse and Boomerang apps’ last day on the app store was March 1, 2022, as indicated by Apptopia data in the report. The removal of the apps indicates that Instagram is looking to consolidate some of its separate offerings in order to focus on the main app.
The company has also officially confirmed the removal of the two apps. “We’ve removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app,” Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai said in a statement to The Verge. “Boomerang is still supported in-app in Stories, and Layout remains a standalone app in the Store. We’ll continue working on new ways for people to be creative and have fun on Instagram,” he further added.
Boomerang app was first released in 2015. It allowed users to create short, loop videos. It did so by taking a burst of photos together. The feature will still be available in Instagram Stories.
Similarly, Hyperlapse was launched in 2014 and enabled users to make time-lapse videos. The technology came from Instagram’s acquisition of Luma which was also its first-ever acquisition. Unlike Boomerang, it is unclear if the features from the app will show up somewhere else within Instagram.
Announcing to end the support for its standalone long-form video app IGTV earlier this month, Instagram said that it will focus on bringing all videos on the main instagram app. Instagram said that it will also no longer support in-stream video ads that were previously known as IGTV ads. However, creators that are actively monetising with in-stream video ads will receive a temporary monthly payment based on recent earnings.
