Hyundai Creta EV spied testing in Chennai, launch expected in 2025

Hyundai Creta EV spotted testing in Chennai

Hyundai’s upcoming Creta EV SUV has been spied on test in Chennai. The prototype is based on the outgoing model and can be identified to be an EV courtesy of the silver battery pack visible under the body. The vehicle was also spotted near an EV charging station which further confirms Creta’s new powertrain option. The Creta EV could be testing the new battery pack on the existing Hyundai-Kia K platform. This platform is currently serving in the ICE-powered Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos across global markets. Hyundai-Kia could be revisiting the same platform to offer a hybrid solution for the popular SUV in the future.

The Hyundai Creta EV was earlier reported to be under works and is expected to make its debut in 2025. The project has been code-named SU2i EV, and could first be previewed at the Auto Expo 2025. Series production of the Creta EV is expected to begin sometime in late 2024.

It is however unclear, which platform the new Creta EV will be based on. The specifications and details of the underlying hardware are also under wraps so far. However, it is anticipated that the Creta EV is likely to debut in the next generation model. The new Creta EV could also spawn a Kia alternative with similar specifications and could be referred to as the Kia Seltos EV. The Creta EV will rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX EV SUV which too is expected to launch in 2025.
