If you use Microsoft Edge browser, you may be under ‘high’ risk – Times of India

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the IT ministry has issued a high severity warning for Microsoft Edge browser users. The warning is for the users who are using browser’s version prior to 97.0.1072.55. As per the warning, multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Edge browser which could allow a remote attacker to gain escalation of privileges and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.
The advisor further reveals that “these vulnerabilities exist in Edge due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data and improper security restrictions. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading the victim to visit a specially crafted Website and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in users browser in context of arbitrary website.”
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to gain escalation of privileges and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system. To avoid any exploitation, the CERT-In wants Edge browser users to update to version 97.0.1072.55. The version was rolled out by the tech giant last week and it incorporates the latest Security Updates of the Chromium project.
If you are an Edge user, you also may get a a new ‘Games’ panel on the browser. According to a report by Neowin, known tipster Leopeva64 has spotted the new panel. The report further mentions that the feature is currently available only for a few users and it is disable by default. The feature needs to be toggled on by going in the Settings > Appearance > Games button.
As per the report, after enabling the feature, users will be able to see a Games button on the omnibar. Clicking in the new button will open a panel on the right side of the browser window. The panel includes various categories of HTML5 games such as Arcade, Board & Card, Puzzle, Sports, Casual, and more.
