Instagram co-founder are back with AI-driven news platform ‘Artifact’

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger are back with a new venture that delivers a personalised news feed powered by artificial intelligence. It uses machine learning to understand your interests and serve you news from multiple publications.
An easy way to understand the venture, called Artifact, is that it is a text-based platform that works on a similar principle that Instagram Reels or TikTok use to serve videos to their users.
Artifact is currently in a private beta but is now accepting requests to be a part of its user base. You can give the company your phone number and it’ll text you a personal invite link when you are off the waitlist. The Verge cited Systrom as saying that the company plans to let users in quickly.
News from curated list of publishers
The app, which is available for both Android and iOS, will also let users discuss articles with friends. The app will feature a feed of popular articles chosen from a curated list of publishers, which include The New York Times as well as small-scale blogs about niche topics, The Verge said.
You can tap on the articles (just like you watch videos on Reels or TikTok) that interest you and Artifact will prioritise similar posts and stories.

The team is testing two features. The first is a curated list of posts and articles from users that you have chosen to follow. The second is a direct message inbox that will allow users to discuss the posts.
“Throughout the years, what I saw was that every time we use machine learning to improve the consumer experience, things got really good really quickly,” Systrom was quoted as saying.
The startup is yet to have a defined business model but Systrom says advertising would be a fit. He is reportedly also open to the idea of revenue-sharing deals with publishers.
