Instagram introduces two new live video features – Times of India

Instagram has revealed two new features for the platform. The tools are largely aimed at the creators who use the Live function. From now on, the creators will be allowed to schedule their Live sessions up to 90 days in advance, and share the news through posts and stories to create the buzz. Viewers will also be allowed to set a reminder for the broadcast. This feature will allow Instagram to be on an even level with other platforms with live broadcasting capability such as YouTube and TikTok.
The company has also revealed that it is planning to roll out a feature called ‘Practice Mode’. The new feature will allow creators to connect and talk with the guest before going live. With this tool creators can check the video quality and the audio levels before starting the broadcast.
“Going Live hits different when your followers come through. Live Scheduling lets you schedule your stream up to 90 days in advance and followers can set reminders to tune in.” wrote Instagram’s official Twitter handle.
The new features by the Facebook-owned platform follows the release of audio-only livesteams in April this year.
The company also recently combined the IGTV video concept and feed video in a single entity called Instagram Video. Videos posted on the feed can now be 60 minutes long. Before the change, the length was reserved for IGTV videos only and to view those videos users had to leave the main application.
Users can now simply upload videos up to 60 minutes long by tapping on the ‘+’ at the top right corner of the home page. Video preview on the main page is now 60 seconds long and the preview is restricted to 15 seconds if it is eligible as an advertisement. The company has also rebranded the IGTV app as the Instagram TV app and it continues to work like it used to before.
