Instagram redesigns web app for bigger screens – Times of India

While an iPad app may not be a huge concern for Instagram, it is improving the experience of its web app on bigger screens. Several users have started noticing a redesigned interface when using Instagram for the web on a bigger screen.
The new interface for Instagram on the web shows a navigation sidebar on the left with shortcuts to Search, Explore, Messages, Notifications, Create and Profile. Earlier the navigation bar used to be on the top, having unlabeled buttons. The redesign extends to a new interface for notifications and messaging and explore page, which now spans across the edges.
The redesign seems to be currently rolling out to users in a phased manner, as many still have the old version of Instagram for the web. In a statement to The Verge, Meta spokesperson said, “We are always working on ways to improve the Instagram.com web experience for people. We recently made updates to modernize Instagram.com, including improving the navigation, optimizing the video experience, and introducing a more immersive way to DM.”
Unlike previously, the new design for Instagram.com looks much more optimised for bigger screens, similar to how Twitter.com appears when opened on a big screen. Earlier, the web app for Instagram on tablets and PCs used to look like a stretched version of an Android or iOS app.
The new redesign is a welcome change for those who use Instagram on their tablets or PCs. But we can’t avoid the fact that Instagram still does not have an iPad app, nor does it plan to have one soon, and the app on Android tablets is just a bigger version of what we get on phones.
