Instagram tests monthly subscriptions for exclusive stories and content – Times of India

Photo-messaging app Instagram is reportedly planning to bring a content creator subscription model soon. The new monetisation model will let content creators offer exclusive Stories to the subscribers and earn money. As per a report by TechCrunch, a new “Instagram Subscriptions” in-app purchase section has been added to the US App Store. The changes were first noticed by two app intelligence services, Sensor Tower and Apptopia.
As noted by them, the subscription has a value of $4.99 on November 1. In addition, another $0.99 in-app purchase was added to the listing a few days later.
Instagram Subscriptions will be similar to Twitter Blue where users will be offered exclusive content and videos. Users will also get a special member badge and will gain access to exclusive live videos as well.
In a series of tweets, tipster Alessandro Paluzzi revealed that the platform may also add a subscribe button to a creator’s profile. The button, he said, will appear next to the creator’s price. He added that a special member badge will appear next to a username whenever you DM the creator or comment on their post. This badge is said to make interactions prioritised with the creator.
According to the tipster, creators will be able to keep a tab on their earnings, active members, and expired membership. The Facebook-owned platform will also allow creators to customise their subscription name and price. Users, on the other hand, can cancel the subscription anytime they want.
