Instagram’s new tool will help people regain access to their hacked accounts – Times of India
Instagram has announced Instagram.com/hacked, a new platform that will allow users to report and try to get the access to their accounts back. “To support accounts that are experiencing access issues or may have been hacked, we created Instagram.com/hacked – a new, comprehensive destination people can rely on to report and resolve account access issues,” the company said in a blog post.
The new platform is now available along with already present safety tools that help keep people’s accounts safe and offer them support if they lose access to their account. “We know losing access to your Instagram account can be stressful, so we want to ensure people have multiple options to get their accounts back if they lose access,” Instagram said.
How to get your Instagram account back?
1) If you’re unable to log in to your account, enter Instagram.com/hacked on your mobile phone or desktop browser.
2) Select an option from the list provided. The options include: “My account was hacked, I forgot my password, The login code was sent to a mobile number or email that I don’t have access to, Someone used my name, photos or information to create a new account, My account was disabled or Something else.”
3) From there, you will be able to follow a series of steps to help regain access to your account.
4) If you have multiple accounts, you will be able to choose which account needs support.
Earlier this year, Instagram started testing a new way for people to get their accounts back. The company allowed users to choose two of their Instagram friends to verify the users’ identity and get accounts back. The feature is now available to everyone on Instagram.
Instagram working to prevent account hacking
Instagram also notes that it is testing ways to help prevent hacking on Instagram before it happens. For that, the company removes accounts that its automated systems find to be malicious, including ones that impersonate others.
It is also testing sending warnings if an account that it suspects may be impersonating someone. “In the coming months, we’ll also send warnings if an account that may be impersonating a business sends you a Direct Message (DM),” Instagram says.
Thirdly, the company will now show the blue verified badge for verified accounts in more places, including in Stories and DMs. Users will also be able to see these Blue ticks on Feed so that users know the is authentic.
