Intel Thunderbolt 5 technology to offer improved data transfer speeds and better external display support
Intel showcased the early prototype of Thunderbolt 5, the next generation Thunderbolt that’s expected to succeed the Thunderbolt 4. The next-generation Thunderbolt, according to the company, will offer improved external display support along with faster data transfer speeds.
From what the company has showcased, the Thunderbolt 5 is expected to offer 80 gigabits per send of bidirectional bandwidth, twice what Thunderbolt 4 offers. This increased bandwidth will enable faster data transfer speeds.
Intel has also confirmed that it will enable up to 120Gbps bandwidth support for external display. This means the Thunderbolt 5 will offer triple the bandwidth compared to its predecessor, which means it can handle low latency output for 8K HDR displays at 60Hz and not just one, but two. This improvement will benefit content creators and creative professionals.
In addition to these, Intel has also confirmed twice the SSD speed with Thunderbolt 5 technology. However, it is important to note that users will need to buy compatible casing to get that kind of speed.
Other features of Thunderbolt 5 include DisplayPort 2.1 support, 2x PCI Express data throughput with backward compatibility.
Apart from these, Intel hasn’t revealed anything else about the Thunderbolt 5 technology. The company has confirmed that it will reveal more details about the Thunderbolt 5 next year.
