- Intel has unveiled the new Core i9-13980HX.
- The new laptop CPU offers 24 cores and a speed of 5.6GHz.
- Intel has also revealed the rest of its 13th-gen lineup as well.
Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs launched for desktops back in September 2022. Now Intel is bringing the power of its 13th-gen CPUs to laptops through its mobile processor line.
According to Engadget, Intel has revealed its Core i9-13980HX. The Core i9-13980HX sits at the top of the company’s mobile processor lineup, offering 24 cores and a speed of 5.6GHz. This would make it the first laptop CPU to ever support a 24-core configuration.
Intel claims that the Core i9-13980HX is the “world’s fastest mobile processor.” And it makes a good case for it, reportedly being 11% faster than last year’s top-end 12900HK on single-threaded tasks and 49% faster on multi-threaded tasks.
Although the Core i9-13980HX is the highlight, it wasn’t the only part of Intel’s CES announcement. The company also revealed the rest of its high-performance HX lineup which ranges from the Core i9 down to the more budget-friendly Core i5.
The 13th-Gen Raptor Lake also includes three different series of CPUs which include the H-, P-, and U-series. These chips are meant for a variety of mainstream laptops and even IoT devices.
According to Engadget, Intel has given its 13th-gen mobile processor chips Vision Processing Unit (VPU) AI accelerators. The AI is meant to help take some of the load off of the processor by taking care of smaller tasks, such as blurring the background.
Intel also revealed a batch of new low-end chips that effectively replace the company’s Pentium and Celeron line. The new chips are part of the N-series and have been simply named Intel Processor and Intel Core i3.
At the moment, there are no details on when the H-, P-, and U-series will be released. However, manufacturers like Acer, Dell, HP, and more are expected to launch laptops with these chips sometime this year.
