iOS 16.2 developer beta adds 5G support for iPhones in India – Times of India
Even though the 5G network has been rolled out in India, iPhones still need to support 5G connectivity in the country. However, the latest developer beta for iOS 16.2, which is currently rolling out to users worldwide, brings support for 5G connectivity in India. A selected batch of users having iPhone 12 and later can now experience the 5G network on their handsets.
So now, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 series, and iPhone SE 2 will be compatible with the 5G network in India. Since it is a beta release, not everyone can use 5G on their iPhones. Also, as this is a ‘developer beta’ release, developers signed up with Apple would only be able to try 5G for testing purposes.
Meanwhile, everyone except developers will have to wait until the public beta drops, which should come out in the next week or two, considering the stable version is expected to release in mid-December.
The update adds support for Jio’s SA and Airtel’s NSA 5G networks, allowing telecom operators’ subscribers to experience the 5G network in the country. Both telecom operators have begun rolling out 5G networks in selected circles of the country and plan to expand the coverage to more regions soon.
The iPhones will show users the option to connect to a 4G network or a 5G network, with the latter having two options – 5G On and 5G Auto. With 5G On turned on, the iPhone will always try to connect to the 5G network, which would also lead to increased battery consumption. Whereas with the 5G Auto, the iPhone will switch between 5G and 4G networks as needed.
