iPadOS 16 will be coming to eligible iPad models this fall. The newest update to the iPad operating system comes with some highly-requested features, including the Weather app and the ability to resize apps for multitasking. Some iOS 16 features are also coming to iPadOS 16 such as Shared Photo Library and SharePlay in Messages, and more.
Stage Manager is easily the biggest new feature coming to the iPad. It allows you to resize apps for a better multitasking experience. The feature also lets you keep your recently used apps on the left side so that you can quickly switch between them. Stage Manager is only compatible with the M1-powered iPad Pro and iPad Air, so it won’t be available for all iPad users, unfortunately.
Other pro features include Reference Mode and Display Zoom. Messages app gets some new features that allow you to start collaborating and managing shared content across Files, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders, and Safari, as well as third-party apps. Freeform is a new collaboration app with a flexible canvas that lets users see, share, and collaborate in one place with support for Apple Pencil.
Safari gets more security features with iPadOS 16, including passkey, an easier and safer sign-in method that essentially replaces passwords with on-device digital keys. Live Text recognises text in images and the feature now comes to video, making text completely interactive in paused video frames.
“iPad is our most versatile device, and we’re excited to take what it can do even further with iPadOS 16,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With Stage Manager, which takes multitasking on iPad to a whole new level, plus new ways to share and collaborate via Messages, Safari, and the new Freeform app, and new pro features like Reference Mode and Display Zoom, users can get even more done on iPad.”
