iphone 13: Apple is bringing this new display tech in iPhones

Apple will reportedly offer low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display panels with a refresh rate of 120Hz for all iPhone 14 models that will be launched next. Apple is expected to introduce 120Hz refresh rate displays in the upcoming iPhone 13 series as well but it will be reserved only for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
What is LTPO display technology?
Technically, LTPO means Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide. This simply helps smartphones to change the refresh rate as per the content without any extra hardware requirement. This helps in getting the desired refresh rate without putting much pressure on the battery.
The biggest issue of displays with higher refresh rates is that phones tend to consume more battery, forcing users to charge their phones more frequently, ultimately reducing the battery life. To tackle this problem, OEMs have come up with variable refresh rates. So, that users get the desired refresh rate as and when required.
LTPO is patented by Apple. Apple uses it in Apple Watch 5 which helps the refresh rate to vary between 1Hz and 60Hz. This helps in providing a smooth experience and also improves battery life.
With 120Hz refresh rate LTPO displays on the iPhone, you can expect the touch responsiveness to dramatically increase and also playing games will be more immersive. You can expect the battery life to increase with the overall experience getting smoother.
LG Displays to provide 120Hz LTPO panels for iPhone 14
As per a report by The Elec, LG Displays is said to be supplying Apple with the new display and it is already in talks with Avaco to get equipment for making LTPO displays. The report added that Apple hasn’t placed a final order yet but given how LG Displays is gearing up to make the new panels, it may happen soon.
With the iPhone 13 series, Apple is using LTPO OLED panels with 120HZ refresh rate from Samsung Displays for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini will get the regular LTPS TFT OLED displays made by LG that offer a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
