iphone: Another reason why iPhone users must upgrade to iOS15 immediately – Times of India

Apple launched iOS 15 for iPhone users globally on Monday and on the same day, the tech giant silently announced that the new operating system comes with a number of security upgrades that further improves Face ID’s anti-spoofing models. In a support document released along iOS 15, the company has addressed the vulnerability of Face ID in which a 3D model constructed to look like the enrolled user may be able to authenticate and use the device.
This loophole was discovered by Wish Wu of Ant Financial’s Light-Year Security Lab, the document mentioned. Wish Wu also made it to headlines in 2019 when he reportedly was able to beat Face ID using printed black and white images.
According to the company, the security fix that comes along with iOS is applicable to all devices with Face ID feature including iPhone X series, iPhone 11 series and iPhone 12 series. The fix is also likely a part of iPadOS 15 as new-generation iPads also use Face ID feature. Apart from this flaw, the document also mentions fixes for Apple Neural Engine, CoreML, Siri, WebKit, Kernel and more.
Since the launch of the new iOS build, Apple has also restricted users with iOS 14.8 or later from downgrading their operating system. This is also to boost the privacy of iPhone users.
First unveiled in July, iOS 15 also brings tons of noticeable updates such as Live Text, Focus Mode, Visual Look Up, FaceTime support outside Apple ecosystem, redesigned Safari browser and many more. While the company continues to support older iPhone models, few of the features in the new update are only limited to selected iPhones only. Along with iOS 15, Apple has also launched iPadOS 15 and Watch OS 8.
