iPhone Black Friday 2021 Deals: our expectations

Black Friday—expected to be the biggest shopping event of the year, as usual—is coming November 26, and with it this year’s best deals on iPhones are sure to crop up here and there. And, again as usual, we will cherry pick them for you in our roundup of iPhone Black Friday deals here.

Even though Apple doesn’t officially offer iPhone deals or indeed discounts on Apple devices in general until the new generation has rolled in, online and offline shops are using iPhone deals as Black Friday doorbusters of sorts to attract shoppers’ attention.

Even the 5G iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, as well as their respective smaller (such as the iPhone SE) and larger siblings (despite being the latest and best devices at the time), saw some impressive offers on these devices previously. Here’s what the the best iPhone Black Friday deals were and what you can expect on the 2021 event.

Will there be Black Friday deals on iPhone 13?

The iPhone 13 was released on September 24, which is just a few months away from Black Friday 2021 on November 26. The new devices were the iPhone 13, 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, and may or may not make a notable appearance in 2021’s Black Friday iPhone deals bonanza.

iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Black Friday deals

Of course, iPhone Black Friday deals will extend to the rest of the line. Last year’s Apple Black Friday sale season, the iPhone 12 series were the hot new item. In 2021, they are yesterday’s news, so we expect retailers to treat them like 2019’s iPhone 11 series. So, let’s look at how the iPhone 11 was discounted on the Black Friday of the previous shopping season, and we will get an idea of what the best Apple deals this time round to expect on the iPhone 12 Pro.AT&T and Verizon ran a consistent 75% off promo for anyone signing up for a new contract. That was about $750 off a brand-new iPhone 11 Pro Max. We expect the same to translate to this year’s iPhone 12 Pro Max — trade-ins and bill credit will probably be a part of the deal, but in the end, you should be able to score an Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max at a price of $300-$400. But, do remember that iPhone deals go quickly, so act fast.

Amazon is sure to drop the price of some of its renewed stock as part of its 2021 iPhone Black Friday deals. These are usually already discounted, due to their refurbished status, but during sales events they get an extra $100 or so shaved off and can be counted among the best Apple iPhone deals from the company itself.

Smaller retailers and carriers also run $100-$150 iPhone Black Friday deals on unlocked models to get some eyeballs on themselves as well.

The same can be said for the smaller iPhone 12 Pro — expect a lot of trade-in offers this Black Friday proposing a $700 discount for an old device, with the possibility of some bill credit or gift cards thrown in to sweeten the pot. Big carriers like Verizon and AT&T can go as far as to offer the Apple iPhone 12 Pro or regular iPhone 12 at 50% off as long as you sign a contract with them, no trade-in required.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini Black Friday deals

If we are to assume the iPhone 12 will follow in the iPhone 11’s footsteps on Black Friday, then we expect some massive outright deals at carriers. Well, if you sign up for a 3-year contract, that is. AT&T and / or Verizon will surely have an offer that gets an iPhone 12 in your hands if you renew or switch to them. Amazon will run $100-$150 Black Friday discounts on refurbished units, and browsing Best Buy and Walmart for unlocked models might also net you some sort of discount and probably a meaty gift card to be reimbursed at the same store.

The iPhone 12 mini will probably go the way of the iPhone XR on Black Friday, meaning some good discounts and the possibility to get a free one if you sign a contract with one of the major carriers. If you want to find an unlocked one, Best Buy and Walmart will surely run some good Black Friday offers, and also smaller carriers that usually offer prepaid contracts will probably try to grab your attention with a well-discounted iPhone 12 mini.

iPhone SE Black Friday deals

The iPhone SE (2020) is still the smallest and cheapest Apple iPhone you can grab, starting at just $400. Last year, Verizon and AT&T straight-up gifted you the iPhone SE (2020) last year’s Black Friday, if you signed up for an Unlimited plan. Walmart offered $150 off on the with a prepaid plan, dropping the iPhone SE (2020) price down to $250. Not a bad price for a pretty good little device — if you don’t mind the old-ish looks and are actually looking for a compact form factor. Although many may have their eye on a new Apple device, the iPhone SE could see deep discounts.

iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro Black Friday deals

The good old Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro are still around, flaunting their rounded-edge glory before it gets fully consumed by Apple’s new “flat sides” design language. If you crave that old ergonomic shape, an iPhone 11 Pro Max is still a pretty good phone. And you can bet stores and carriers will run Black Friday iPhone deals on them!

It’s safe to assume that the iPhone 11 Pro Max will get the same treatment that the iPhone XS got last year. We saw a ton of refurbished units floating around as well as new old stock items going for an outright $600 to $700 Black Friday discount at carriers. Meaning, you could nab an XS Max from AT&T for about $400, if you are among the new batch of new customers. Well, the iPhone 11 Pro Max will probably follow the same scheme. As for major retailers — we expect something like a minor discount plus a hefty gift card to add to your savings.

The very same can be said about the iPhone 11 Pro — the phone isn’t currently sold by Apple but still goes for a normal price of $1000 at major retail stores. However, when the event rolls about and the iPhone 13 is already out, carriers and stores will be looking to clear out their warehouses of iPhone 11 Pro units. So, hefty deep discounts going as far as $600 off with or without giftcards thrown in will probably pop up all around. The time has never been better to get a new iPhone, even if it a slightly older model. Plus, new customers may get even bigger savings on iPhone models across the board.

iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR Black Friday deals

The iPhone X series has gone the way of the dodo — you can mostly find renewed and refurbished units online, with almost no new-old stock items left. These go for about $300-$350 on Amazon and we expect them to get something like a $50 discount during the holiday sales events. We hope that these particular iPhone models get many discounts, as they are fantastic products.

The iPhone XS is the last iPhone with 3D Touch you can buy. It shares a similar fate to the iPhone X — it’s pretty much gone from store shelves, so your best bet is going second-hand or refurbished. These go for about $380-$450 right now and will probably have further price cuts of around $50 during the event..

Lastly, the colorful and cheerful iPhone XR can also be found mostly in refurbished or renewed states. They sell for about $300-$350, kind of competing with the iPhone X in that price range (and, really, the iPhone X might be one of the better deals here).

iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 8 Black Friday deals

Apple’s iPhone 6s may be 6 years old now, yet it received the iOS 12 update and will even be able to go up to iOS 13. In other words, Apple still treats it as a viable, contemporary phone. Oh, also, it’s the last iPhone with a headphone jack you can buy. Naturally, you can’t really find one new nowadays — these have been sold out long ago. Refurbished units cost about $120 and will probably get a minor discount, like -$20, during the holiday shopping events. Not a bad price if you just want to have a backup iPhone for “just in case” scenarios (or for beach trips or hikes). We’ll be curious to see if these are included in this year’s round of iPhone Black Friday deals.

The iPhone 7 was notable for two things — one, it removed the headphone jack; two, it came in two flavors of black — matte black and jet black. In any case, you would be hard pressed to find a brand-new unit nowadays. Renewed units run for about $140 and will probably get some minor price cut during the event, as part of the wider iPhone deals on offer.

The iPhone 8 comes in the same shape but was the first generation of iPhones to have wireless charging. That also meant they got the glossy glass back panels. There are some new iPhone 8 units floating around prepaid carriers for about $550. On the refurbished market, they go for around $230. During the shopping bonanza, the best deals for carrier models might get something like a $50-$100 drop and the refurbished deals may go down by $50-$70

Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and Target Black Friday iPhone deals preview

For example, last year’s Black Friday iPhone deals included Best Buy’s discounts of up to $100 across the entire Apple iPhone 12 series (with a new line or account) and these offers could be coupled with additional carrier promotions, making Apple’s latest iPhones at the time harder to resist on Black Friday.

Black Friday at Walmart is always a massive event, too. The retailer gave buyers the opportunity to save up to $900 on the iPhone 12 series, for instance, and, surprise, surprise, it is still running the exact same deal right now. The iPhone deal consists of a $200 discount from Walmart itself and $700 off with a qualified trade-in and line activation.
The Target Black Friday sale, on the other hand, offered new and existing customers $700 off when you trade in to a new line or upgrade on an eligible unlimited plan. Sam’s Club was also running a welcome deals promotion, as members could receive $50 in bill credits by upgrading to an iPhone 12 series model, and an additional $700 when they trade-in an eligible smartphone.

Do T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T offer iPhone deals on Black Friday?

You bet, as Verizon’s Black Friday deals included a BOGO sale on all iPhone 12 models and up to $440 off for existing customers that upgrade with an eligible trade-in.
AT&T’s Black Friday was also offering up to $700 off the iPhone 12, basically giving it away for free with a new line or upgrade and an eligible trade-in.

In addition, AT&T users at Best Buy were able to benefit from an $800 total discount after activating their phone on an unlimited plan and completing a trade-in valued at $700 in bill credits, even for basic phones.

See you on the big day

These are our main expectations in terms of iPhone Black Friday deals, but like every new year, there are always surprises in store. As well as outright savings on the regular price, retailers do like to have their own twists on particular iPhone deals.

It’s always a good idea to go in prepared, just as it’s also good to greet the shopping event with an open mind to explore the iPhone deals that might unexpectedly open up. There can also be bundle deals sometimes, particularly through mobile carriers – so if both you and a friend are looking for Black Friday iPhone deals together, you just might find discounts to suit the both of you.

We will, of course be updating this page with all the best iPhone Black Friday deals in the run up, and on the day itself, so check back regularly during the shopping event.
