iPhone users spend more money on apps than Android users: Report

There has been a massive difference in terms of user database when it comes to mobile operating systems. Android users have reportedly been more in quantity than iOS users but when it comes to spending, the trend is completely opposite.
“Apple’s App Store accounted for $41.5 billion in global consumer spending during the first half of 2021, or 1.8x the $23.4 billion seen by Google Play, which saw an estimated $23.4 billion in the same period,” claims a report by Sensor Tower.
The report tracks the trends among Google Play Store and Apple App Store users for the first six months of 2021 and makes projections for the rest of the year.
Despite spending on Google Play Store lagging behind Apple App Store, “Google’s marketplace is projected to experience more Y/Y growth than Apple’s”

According to the report, the worldwide consumer spending on mobile apps reached $64.9 billion across the App Store and Google Play in the first half of 2021, which is 24.8% more than the $52 billion generated by both stores in the same period in 2020.

Global consumer spending in mobile games reached $44.7 billion in the first half of 2021, which is up 17.9% year over year according to the report.
The App Store experienced $26 billion of in-game spending, up 13.5% annually, which is said to be less than half as much growth as it saw in the first six months of 2020. During that time, consumer spending had climbed 26.5% year over year to $22.9 billion from $18.1 billion.
As for the Google Play Store, it maintained the same annual growth as seen in the first half of 2020. “While consumer spending in mobile games is growing at a slower clip than last year, this doesn’t indicate a downturn for the industry but rather a normalization after the surge in interest during the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic,” added the report.
