iPhones to get 5G support in India by December, confirms Apple

Earlier this month, India had its big moment as 5G services were officially rolled out in the country. While Airtel and Jio have 5G up and running in some selected cities, iPhones with 5G connectivity do not yet support the network in India. Apple will soon roll out a software update bringing 5G support for the compatible iPhones.
Airtel and Jio say that even though the iPhones have compatible hardware for 5G connectivity, the software does not support 5G. So, Apple needs to push a software update to enable 5G support on iPhones in India.
iPhone models starting with iPhone 12 and newer, including the second-generation iPhone SE, come with 5G compatible hardware and 5G support enabled in regions with 5G networks available. Since India did not have 5G networks at the time of the launch of these iPhones, Apple disabled the option.
Apple says that it has been working with carriers (network providers) in India to validate and test the quality and performance of 5G networks in India.
“We are working with our carrier partners in India to bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance is completed,” said Apple in a statement.
iPhone users in India will have to wait until December to experience 5G, as Apple plans to roll out the software update to enable 5G connectivity for compatible iPhones.
“5G will be enabled via a software update and will start rolling out to iPhone users in December,” the statement reads.
