Largely unheard of till last year, SPAC is in news now. Advocates of the model stress that these ‘blank cheque’ firms are aiding fledgling companies to go public earlier than in a traditional IPO. But are these the real deal? ET Prime asks experts to share their views on three pertinent questions around the theme.

Let’s start with three data points.#1: Year 2021 is expected to be a busy season for IPOs (initial public offers). Quite a few unicorns and well-funded startups are reported to be eyeing IPOs. So far, a look at the red-herring prospectus status filed with Sebi shows only one tech-startup name that we recognise among these — Nazara Technologies (the IPO opened Wednesday).
