Reliance Jio 5G launch date in India could be June 24th

According to various reports, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) could announce Jio 5G services in India on June 24th during the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). However, the rollout of the Jio 5G service could take place sometime later in the future as the DoT is yet to allot the 5G spectrum to telecom operators in the Indian market. Expect the brand to reveal the key Jio 5G features and Jio 5G prices in India on June 24th.

Reliance Jio 5G plans in India could be very affordable

When Reliance launched the Jio 4G network in India back in 2016, the company announced cellular plans that were much more affordable than those offered by its competitors such as Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Reliance is expected to do the same with the Jio 5G service. As the 5G network is faster than the 4G network, it requires costlier infrastructure. And that cost will be passed on to the customers. So, 5G plans in India are going to be costlier than the 4G plans. However, Reliance is expected to launch extremely affordable Jio 5G plans in India, just like it did when the company entered the telecom market.

Reliance Jio 5G could offer up to 1Gbps speeds

Last month, the Department of Telecommunications gave permission to Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea to test the 5G network in the country. The agency has allowed these companies to use 700MHz, 3.5GHz, and 26GHz spectrums for the 5G trials. Well, Reliance has wasted no time to start testing the Jio 5G network in the country. Last week, it kicked off the Jio 5G trial in Mumbai using its indigenous technology. According to a report published by Qualcomm, Jio 5G achieved a speed of 1Gbps  during the trials using indigenous technology.

Reliance Jio 5G could use sub-6GHz and mmWave bands, and 5Gi technology

According to various reports online, RIL will be deploying sub-6GHz as well as mmWave networks in India. While the sub-6GHz network offers a longer range than mmWave, the latter provides faster speed at the cost of a shorter range. Reliance Jio is also said to be testing 5Gi in India, which is a technology developed by IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad. However, details on 5Gi are currently scarce. Along with that, the company has been busy developing virtualised Radio Access Network (RAN) in collaboration with Qualcomm, which is said to accelerate the rollout of Jio 5G in India.

An affordable Jio 5G phone is also in the offing

It is no secret that Reliance Jio and Google are working together on an affordable 5G smartphone for India. The upcoming Jio-Google 5G smartphone is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000. The Jio 5G phone could be the most affordable 5G phone in India, suggest various reports. The affordable 5G phone from Jio could attract a lot of customers and expand Jio’s user base by a significant margin.
