Kanye West’s deal to purchase conservative social media app Parler is off – Times of India
“The company [Parlement Technologies] has mutually agreed with Ye to terminate the intent of sale of Parler. This decision was made in the interest of both parties in mid-November. Parler will continue to pursue future opportunities for growth and the evolution of the platform for our vibrant community,” CNBC quoted the company as saying.
The deal between the parties was announced in October soon after the musician was banned from multiple social media platforms, including Twitter, for his anti-sematic comments. “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” Ye said at the time of the announcement.
Parlement Technologies CEO George Farmer welcomed Ye as “a compatriot in the fight for free speech.”
“This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech. Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again,” the CEO had said.
Ye banned from Twitter, again
The development comes as Twitter again suspended the musician’s account. He posted a photo that showed a Swastika intertwined with a Star of David. Ye deleted the image soon after posting it on the microblogging platform.
The Star of David is a recognised symbol of both Jewish identity and Judaism. Swastika is recognised for its use by Hitler’s Nazi Party and neo-Nazis.
The suspension announcement was made by Elon Musk. Reports also suggest that Ye leaked an alleged chat with Musk on Truth Social app wherein the new owner of Twitter told the rapper that he has “gone too far” and “this is not love.”
