Layoffs at Google, Microsoft, Amazon: These employees have been impacted the most – Times of India

Big Tech is laying off employees impacting a number of teams. Recently, a report in Times of India Gadgets Now listed the departments that have been affected by the reduction in headcount, and now new details have emerged about the people that have been laid off by Google.
As per a report by The Information, senior executives earning up to $1 million annually were also laid off by Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. At Google, laid-off employees include those who had previously received high performance reviews or held managerial positions “with annual compensation packages of $500,000 to $1 million.
It is to be noted that Google introduced a new performance review system, called ‘Google Reviews and Development’ (GRAD), last year. It is suggested that the new system will put employees who receive low scores at higher risk of getting laid off from the company. Google spokesperson Chris Pappas recently confirmed the GRAD system to Forbes.

Google to cut 12,000 jobs
Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company will reduce its workforce by 12,000 employees. These employees worked in departments such as Google Cloud and Chrome to Android and “search-related groups under senior executive Prabhakar Raghavan“.
Google Cloud laid off people in strategy, recruiting, and go-to-market teams, as per the report by The Information. The company’s in-house research and development (R&D) division called Area 120 has also been significantly hit.
10,000 job cuts at Microsoft
Microsoft laid off 10,000 employees from departments including its game development studios. Other cuts impacted its mixed-reality (MR) headset teams and the company has shut AltspaceVR virtual reality-based social platform.
Amazon employee strength down by 18,000
Amazon also laid off 18,000 employees and these job cuts affected workers in devices and services divisions. Amazon will also shut down its charity donation programme, “AmazonSmile”.
Nearly 2,000 people were laid off in hardware chief Dave Limp’s division, which is home to products like Alexa and Echo smart home devices. A “significant number” of employees working on the Prime Air drone delivery project have also been impacted.
