Leak suggests the OnePlus 9T might not launch at all this year

TL;DR
- According to a new leak, OnePlus will not launch a 9T series at all.
- This comes after rumors that only the OnePlus 9T Pro will be omitted.
OnePlus has traditionally launched a T variant after its main flagship series to serve as the year-end revision. This year, many fans are likely waiting for the OnePlus 9T series instead of grabbing the firm’s current option. However, according to reliable tipster Max Jambor, OnePlus will not launch a T revision for the OnePlus 9 series.
The tip comes after last month’s rumors suggesting that the company wouldn’t launch a OnePlus 9T Pro variant. Considering there was no OnePlus 8T Pro, the leak seemed solid in reason. It also didn’t rule out the existence of the OnePlus 9T. However, Jambor is now throwing the entire device line in doubt.
Why would OnePlus scrap the 9T?
This year, manufacturers have been forced to rework their device lineups in the wake of the global chip shortage. OnePlus has also ruled out specific storage options of the OnePlus 9 series hitting North America due to supply constraints. It’s not beyond reason that the firm just can’t put out a T series this year due to the lack of silicon and other components.
Alternatively, the move could form a part of the firm’s larger integration with Oppo or a broader plan to simplify its device lines. We found the OnePlus 8T to be far too similar to the company’s other devices to stand out truly. Perhaps OnePlus is considering slimming down its offerings, especially at the high-end, to differentiate them better.
So what should you make of this? For now, we can’t corroborate Jambor’s claim. The tipster has a proven track record, but we advise taking this info with a pinch of salt. OnePlus traditionally launches its T series in Q4, so there’s plenty of time for the situation to change. Expect plenty of tips and rumors to emerge well before then, too.
But what do you think? Do you want to see a OnePlus 9T series this year? Be sure to vote in our poll above.
