South Korean tech company LG may have taken permanent leave from the smartphone business but is working on products in the other departments and coming up with new innovations also. According to a report by LetsGoDigital, LG has got a new rollable OLED tv with a side rolling screen patented. The design patent was awarded to LG by The Hague International Design System.
The patent is titled ‘Television with rollable display.’ When rolled up, the tv resembles a long speaker unit with rounded sides. To pull the screen out, you can do it from either side of the unit.
The earlier rollable TV that LG had showcased and launched had its display portion hidden inside the base of the TV. When prompted, it would start emerging from the base slowly. So far, design wise, LG has done some serious space-saving though the price tag on the model is a hefty one too.
Other than having a display that rolls out from the side of the TV, the new rollable TV, as per the sketches, will have a more compact size and with a triangular housing. The base of the TV would be a T-shaped frame that would hold the display. Other details about the TV like the display resolution and the space the bezels would take are a matter of speculation only. If LG does bring out this new rollable TV, expect some windfall for the general consumer to afford. Innovation in the technology world seldom costs less.
