Logitech G335 gaming headset review: A competent choice
Top Features
– Lightweight
– Decent sound output
– Comfortable
Logitech recently started foraying into the ultra-lightweight gaming headsets. The first headset launched was G733 Lightspeed, which is also the flagship headset from the company. Recently, the company also launched the G335, sort of an affordable version of G733. Think of it like Galaxy S20FE, which was an affordable version of Galaxy S20 lineup with most of the features borrowed from the flagship except the pricing.
Now, technology is something that comes at a cost. Basically, the more you are ready to pay, the more you will get in the tech world. But, reducing the price also needs some sacrifice and it can be anything from quality to features.
The Logitech G335 is that gaming headset which claims to bring flagship-grade quality at an affordable price. But, what’s on stake here? Are those sacrifices big enough or they are just marginal and worth the compromise. Let’s find out in our review.
Logitech G335 gaming headset: Design
The G335 gaming headset takes its design cues from its elder sibling, the G733 Lightspeed. The sharp and edgy design is here. Also, the headset belongs to the company’s new colour collection series which features the same dual-tone design. Also it gives users a little bit of customisation freedom, thanks to the interchangeable and adjustable rubber headband support.
Talking about the design, the RGB LED lights from the G733 are gone, the headset also does not come with a removable microphone or ear cushion. In our view, this is a big negative for a gaming headset of this price. It also means, that if by any change the cushion or the microphone gets damaged, you will have to get a new headset altogether.
The G335 weighs just 240g and the company claims that it is one of the lightest gaming headsets available in the market. And, that’s true, most gaming headsets weigh much more than 240g.
The weight loss is a good thing, but doing it the right way is the key, simply burning the fats does not matter, it is not being toned properly and that’s exactly the case with Logitech G335. We understand that the company wanted to make a lightweight gaming headset and that they have used a complete plastic build that feels cheap, flimsy and far from premium.
Though, it is strong and the flexible nature of the plastic material helps with that. But, this also has a huge perk for gamers. See, most gaming headsets that weigh more cause fatigue after a certain interval. They get sweaty and uncomfortable after a while. That’s not the case with G335. We played Call of Duty Cold War for around 8 hours in a single stretch and never realised that we were wearing a headset. It didn’t get sweaty, thanks to the memory foam cushion. Also, the adjustable height and headband makes things even better.
The Logitech G335 also comes with a pretty long cable with a single 3.5mm audio jack. The company also provides a separator dongle in case you want to use it with a laptop or PC that comes with two different ports for microphone and headset.
So, yes the loss of weight might have made the headset lose its premium charm, but the practicality is still intact and that’s what matters while gaming.
Logitech G335 gaming headset: Audio performance and gaming experience
Logitech G335 is a gaming headset, it is designed for gaming and it lives up to that. We usually check three things in a gaming headset — the separation of audio channels, the surround effect and the clarity.
In our test, the channel separation was really good and the headset made everything pretty sharp and clear all the way from left to right. The 40mm audio driver that comes fitted in it also has a wide soundstage and you can feel that during a rapid action sequence in the game. The background score sounds clear and wide too.
The only issue we have is the lack of bass effect. No matter what game we tried, the thump was missing. The grenade blast felt a little tiny in terms of impact, the bass effect could have been better here.
Basically, the Logitech G335 scores high in gaming audio performance. Give it a little extra bass and it can take done almost every gaming headset in this segment.
We know that this is a gaming headset, but we were unable to resist ourselves from listening to music on it and the G335’s lack of bass was more evident here. Also, the treble was a little too pronounced.
Our recommendation is to use the G335 strictly for gaming only.
The microphone is good and while communicating on discord during our Dota 2 session, our team members who usually go mad when they find bad audio from anyone’s end confirmed clear and natural sound output.
Logitech G335 gaming headset: Verdict
For the asking price of Rs 6,795, Logitech G335 is slightly expensive for what it is offering. No doubt, it’s lightweight and feels extremely comfortable in the long run, but it struggles with bass and the thump we expect from a gaming headset. Also, the non-removable microphone and ear cushion also take things not in favour of G335.
So, if you are looking for a gaming headset that’s lightweight and offers a decent audio experience, then go for G335, it will not disappoint. But, if lightweight is not in your top priority, look for something else.
