Privacy is ‘on’ by default in DuckDuckGo for Mac

Faster than Chrome on some parameters
DuckDuckGo for Mac has used the same built-in website rendering engine — the one Safari uses — which can block trackers before they actually load. DuckDuckGo also claims that its browser is faster than Chrome on some graphics performance. Also, by blocking trackers, DuckDuckGo uses about 60% less data than Chrome.
Security features
DuckDuckGo claims that its built-in smarter encryption which ensures users navigate to the encrypted (HTTPS) version of a website more often. Further, DuckDuckGo’s tracker blocking is reportedly exposed less to third-party scripts that could try to access user data. All the in-app data, like history, bookmarks, and passwords, by default, are only stored locally on the device and aren’t accessible to DuckDuckGo.
How to get access to the beta of DuckDuckGo for Mac
In a blog post, DuckDuckGo has said that there is a private waitlist and it is letting new people off the waitlist today. DuckDuckGo will be inviting people in waves and improving the app as feedback comes in.
Users won’t need to share any personal information to join. Instead, they will secure their place in line with a date and time that exists solely on their device. DuckDuckGo will notify you when it is ready for you to join.
Here’s how you can join the private waitlist:
- Download the DuckDuckGo mobile app (or update to the latest version)
- Open Settings > DuckDuckGo for Desktop (in the “More from DuckDuckGo” section).
- Click “Join the Private Waitlist.”
- When you’re granted an invite code, you’ll get a notification from the app. The notification will take you to an invite code and a link to the download page to be opened on your desktop/laptop.
