macbook air: Apple sold record 6.5 million MacBooks in Q3 2021: Report – Times of India
Apple had a roaring third quarter when it comes to MacBook sales, with the company selling a record 6.5 million MacBooks in the period, as per a report by research firm Strategy Analytics. This is 10% higher than the MacBook sales in Q3 2020. The discounts the tech giant gave on the MacBook Air have contributed greatly to the record number of sales.
As for the top five global notebook PC vendors for Q3 2021, Lenovo took the first spot with 15.3 million units shipped, followed by HP and Dell with 14.3 million and 12.2 million units shipped respectively. Rounding off the top five list were Apple and Asus with 6.5 million and 5.1 million units respectively. Asus. With the rise in sales, the notebook PC market delivered an 8% year-on-year growth for Q3 2021.
Lenovo has retained its top spot for the fourth quarter in a row while Asus broke into the top 5 riding on its 10% year-over-year growth. HP maintained its second position, with a -5% decline year-over-year for the first time since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
Dell had 50% growth rate year-on-year and also gained 5.1 percentage points of market share over the last year’s quarter to reach 18.2%, as per the report.
Discounts on gaming laptops also helped ratchet up the sales, says the report.
As per the report, sales for the notebook PCs could have been even more if not for the shortage of components and higher freight costs, which caused the prices to shoot up and also cause delays.
