macbook pro: Apple explains why new MacBook Pro laptops have the notch – Times of India

As we are expecting Apple to ditch the notch display in the next iPhone, the company surprised us by including it in the latest MacBook Pro models. Many have criticised Apple for including the notch on the display as it doesn’t serve any important purpose. Primarily, if there’s no Face ID support on the new MacBook Pro models then how’s the notch any use.
Responding to the criticism, Apple’s manager for the Mac, Shruti Haldea, in an interview on the Same Brain podcast said, “What we’ve done is we’ve actually made the display taller. Like on the 16-inch notebook, you still have a 16.0 active area on the diagonal in that 16:10-inch window, and we just grew the display up from there and put the menu bar up there. We just kind of moved it up and out of the way. So it’s a really smart way to give you more space for your content, and when you’re in full-screen mode, you have that 16:10 window, and it looks great. It’s seamless.”
Talking about more screen estate, Both models– 16-inch and 14-inch– come with a larger display than the previous generation — the 16-inch model offers a 16.2-inch display and the 14-inch model gives an active area of 14.2-inch. The display features even thinner borders and extends up around the camera to provide users with even more room for their content, as per Apple.
MacBook Pro offers Liquid Retina XDR display. Featuring the mini-LED technology used in iPad Pro, Apple claims that the Liquid Retina XDR display delivers up to 1,000 nits of sustained, full-screen brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. There’s P3 wide colour gamut and ProMotion technology featuring an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. ProMotion automatically varies the refresh rate to match the motion of a user’s onscreen content to help save battery life.
