macbook pro: Some MacBook Pro owners are complaining about MagSafe 3 charging, here’s why

A few MacBook Pro owners who have the 16-inch version of the device seem to have noticed a common issue where the MagSafe 3 connector is unable to deliver the expected charge when the Mac is turned off and the lid is closed. Macrumors report that some 16-inch MacBook Pro models and their respective 140W ‌MagSafe‌ 3 charger are experiencing a glitch where the ‌MagSafe‌ light is on and yet it isn’t charging the Mac when the MacBook Pro is turned off. Some of the users have contacted Apple Support to get to the bottom of it, but have only received success to varying degrees.
The report adds that one particular customer has got an assurance from the Cupertino-based giant about getting a replacement laptop after concluding a lengthy back and forth with Apple Support. This particular user went to the Apple service centre and they tested his Mac with a cable and charger that they had and still encountered the problem. Then, they said they would replace his charger with a new 140 watt charger to fix the issue as they undermined it as a firmware issue. Later, he got a follow-up call from Apple and was asked to run a special diagnostics program, yet the issue persisted. Finally, the company has agreed to replace both the MacBook and the charger but there is still no follow-up from Apple about the situation.
MacBook users know that a consistent orange light shows that the MacBook is charging, while green light shows it’s on full charge. The report also adds that there is a video online that shows that the light on the Magsafe charger repeatedly flashing amber followed by the usual macOS charging sound effect when the MacBook Pro is closed. MagSafe‌ flashing amber usually indicates that something is not working as normal and Apple Support also provides steps to try and return the ‌MagSafe‌ charger to normal if the amber light keeps on flashing.
In this case, this situation arises only when the Mac is either turned off or has the lid closed. If the MacBook Pro is connected to the MagSafe‌ charger while it’s on and is then switched off, the ‌MagSafe‌ 3 charger keeps on charging the Mac as expected. This issue pops up only when some users attempt to connect to the ‌MagSafe‌ charger while the Mac is already switched off.
The report concludes that not every 16-inch MacBook Pro is ought to face this problem as the one that was tested couldn’t reproduce the same bug. But, several other users are facing this issue that the tech giant is expected to address in the upcoming days.
