Major Asus Zenfone 9 leak reveals a compact flagship with gimbal camera

TL;DR

  • A promo video has apparently shown off the Asus Zenfone 9 ahead of its unveiling.
  • It looks like the phone will be a compact device with flagship internals and an upgraded camera system.

We’ve seen a couple of supposed Asus Zenfone 9 leaks in the last few months, but credible details were few and far between. Now, an Asus Zenfone 9 promo video has leaked online, apparently revealing the device’s design and most notable specs.

A promo video of the device was shared on the Asus Zenfone Forum Facebook page, but it’s since been deleted. Fortunately, the video has been reposted on YouTube, while screenshots of the video were also posted on SlashLeaks. Check out the video below.

The images and video show a compact phone with a 5.9-inch screen, seemingly in line with the Zenfone 8‘s form factor. Other apparent design choices include a vertically stacked rear camera system (with lenses that seem large relative to the device itself), flat edges, a 3.5mm port at the top, and an IP68 rating.

Other supposed Zenfone 9 details gleaned from the video include the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, a 4,300mAh battery, a 120Hz refresh rate, dual stereo speakers, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. In fact, Asus will apparently allow you to slide on the power button/fingerprint scanner to scroll through pages.

The phone might also be one to watch for photography and videography fans, as it’s said to be equipped with a 50MP IMX766 primary camera along with six-axis gimbal stabilization. There’s no word on the secondary rear camera, but we’re guessing it’s an ultrawide lens. Either way, the presence of more effective stabilization could make this device ideal for video recording.

We haven’t heard of any solid rumors regarding pricing and availability just yet, but we hope the Zenfone 9 has the same competitive $629 price tag as the previous phone. It would also be great if the company launched this phone in a timely manner, as the older device only hit India in February 2022.
