Mi Anniversary Days sale sees discounts on Redmi smartphones, but are the offers real?

Xiaomi entered India on July 15th, 2014 with the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone. In the next couple of days, on July 15th, 2021, Xiaomi will complete seven years in India. To celebrate the seven-year anniversary, Xiaomi has organised the Mi Anniversary Days sale on Amazon India. This sale has kicked off today and it will be live till July 16th. Now, Xiaomi has listed a few deals on Redmi smartphones during this sale, and the discounts seem amazing. So, this is a great time to buy a Redmi smartphone, right? Well, don’t get too excited. When we compared the launch prices of these smartphones, we found that there are no actual discounts. Let us have a look.

Discounted Redmi phones aren’t really discounted

The dedicated page of the Mi Anniversary Days sale on Amazon India says that Xiaomi is offering a Rs 2,000 discount on the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of the Redmi 9, bringing the price of the smartphone from Rs 10,999 down to Rs 8,999. However, when we dug deeper, we found that the Redmi 9 was launched in India at Rs 8,999 for the 4GB + 64GB model. So, it means that there is no actual discount on the price of the Redmi 9 during the Mi Anniversary Days sale.

So, what is happening here? Well, Xiaomi is basically showing the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of the Redmi 9 (Rs 10,999), which is higher than the usual selling price of the smartphone (Rs 8,999), and users end up believing that the phone was being sold at that price before the sale. In reality, however, Xiaomi is selling the Redmi 9 for the same price at which it used to be sold before the sale (Rs 8,999).

The same goes for the Redmi Note 10, Redmi Note 10S, Redmi Note 10 Pro, and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. Xiaomi is selling these smartphones for the same price as they were being sold before the sale. However, the brand is suggesting that the phones are available at discounted prices during the sale. That being said, a few offers are real. Take the 10 percent discount offer with SBI Cards for example. It is a legit offer. You can get a 10 percent discount (up to Rs 1,000) on the Mi products during the sale if you make the purchase using an SBI credit card.

It is still a great chance to buy Xiaomi products

It is also worth mentioning that not all deals might be fake. We have checked only the deals that were highlighted on the landing page of the Mi Anniversary Days sale. There are many other products listed in this sale. It is possible that a few of those deals might be real. However, the most lucrative deals have turned out to be fake. That being said, this is still a great time to buy a Mi product as you can take advantage of the 10 percent discount that you are getting with SBI cards. It could bring down the price of a Redmi smartphone by up to Rs 1,000.
