Microsoft has announced that Age of Empires will be coming to mobile devices | Digit

Microsoft has made it official that their long-running PC franchise, Age of Empires would be coming to Xbox consoles and Mobile devices including Android and iOS soon. This announcement was made during the Age of Empires’ 25th-anniversary broadcast. Let’s take a look at what’s next for the Age of Empire franchise!

Why is Age of Empires coming to Mobile?

The Age of Empires games have been on PC for a long time now, and this sudden push is most likely due to the Activision acquisition that Microsoft is looking to make. The company has already made it clear that they would want more of their Xbox’s IP to hit other platforms and that is likely why Age of Empires is coming to Mobile devices.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, “We shared a teaser trailer for a whole new way to play Age of Empires as it heads to mobile. This uniquely designed, visually stunning game will allow you to build your empire on the go. If the teaser has you excited, there’ll be more to share in the not-too-distant future. So stay tuned”

As of now, Xbox has not revealed any gameplay for the mobile title, only a teaser trailer has been released. This means that the game is still a long way from release. Along with mobile devices, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be coming to Xbox consoles on January 31, 2023, with Age of Empires IV coming to consoles later in the year.

Just to be clear, this is not the first time Age of Empires would be hitting mobile devices. Back in 2015, Microsoft released Age of Empires: World Domination and Age of Empires: Castle Siege. However, the mobile version of these games didn’t do well at that time which resulted in Xbox Studios ending support for both games.
