Microsoft has ‘good news’ for your old Windows computer – Times of India
Microsoft has earlier announced that the Windows 11 operating system update will be rolled to those PCs that meet certain hardware requirements. Now, in a major relief for those owning older PCs, Microsoft has announced that it will allow you to install Windows 11 on older PCs too. Having said that, if you have an older PC, you will not be eligible to automatically upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 by hitting the update button. But you will be allowed to download an ISO file of Windows 11 and manually install Windows 11 on your old PC.
While individuals may not find installing Windows 11 ISO files as a lot of hard work, this will greatly help businesses who are still stuck with old hardware. Businesses can try out Windows 11 on older PCs and look at it as a stopgap arrangement before they get funds to buy new systems with Windows 11. As a word of caution, there’s no guarantee as to how Windows 11 will perform on older PCs.
Back in June, Microsoft announced the minimum system requirements to support Windows 11. These include Processor: 1GHz 64-bit dual-core processor; RAM: 4GB; Storage: 64GB; Display: 9-inch display with at least 1366 by 768 pixels resolution; UEFI support; Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 support; DirectX 12 compatible graphics or WWDM 2.x
Windows 11 now only supports 64-bit processors and there will not be a 32-bit version. But 32-bit apps and software will continue working just fine. Another important thing is that now, Windows 11 requires at least a 9-inch display size, unlike Windows 7’s 7-inch.
