Microsoft may launch new premium laptop to replace the Surface Book – Times of India

Now that Microsoft has made Windows 11 official and announced all the major software-based enhancements, it doesn’t come as a major surprise that the Satya Nadella-led tech giant is also working on launching a new flagship hardware lineup as well. According to a report by Windows Central, the upcoming top of the line Windows laptop won’t be called Surface Book, but something close to “Surface Laptop,” “Surface Laptop Pro” or “Surface Laptop Studio.”
The report claims that Microsoft will not be offering a detachable screen with the soon to be launched laptop. This is because, with the non-detachable design, Microsoft will have the option to equip them with “more powerful chips” in comparison to the U-series processors that power the current Microsoft Surface Book lineup.
Overall, buyers can expect a new design, a larger trackpad, a 14-inch display with a high refresh rate and a powerful graphics card from NVIDIAs RTX line.
First laptop to come with Windows 11?
The flagship Surface laptop will also be one of the first devices to ship with Windows 11, which was unveiled in June earlier this year after a gap of six years. The Windows 10 OS version was unveiled in 2015. Microsoft usually holds its hardware event in October so it is being assumed as of now that the upcoming Surface laptop could be the first device to ship with Windows 11 pre-installed.
For others, Windows 11 is expected to be available for download later this year when PCs with Windows 11 operating system will officially start selling. If you are using a Windows 10 computer then you will most likely get the update for free provided your device meets the minimum hardware requirements of 4GB of RAM, 64GB of free storage space and a 64-bit 1 GHz dual-core processor.
Quite recently, Windows and Devices chief Panos Panay revealed a new Focus Sessions feature that will be part of Windows 11 update on Twitter and called it a ‘game-changer.’ Microsoft’s Focus Sessions allows users to select a task from a list of tasks for a particular Focus Session. Post this, it will allow users to select the time limit for that task with support for optional breaks in between.
