  • Microsoft held its Surface event today.
  • The company announced the Surface Pro 9 and a host of other hardware, accessories, and software.
  • The Surface Pro 9 will come in a variety of colors and will hit store shelves on October 25.

This morning, Microsoft held its 2022 Surface event. Along with some new hardware, software, and accessories, the company unveiled the next device in the Surface Pro line — the Surface Pro 9.

During today’s show, Microsoft showed off the Surface Pro 9 and revealed that it would come in two versions: an Intel model that will start at $999 and an Arm model that will start at $1,299.

According to The Verge, the Arm model is said to be powered by Qualcomm and Microsoft’s SQ3 chip. That SQ3 chip will support 5G, a new neural processing unit, and a few other exclusive features.

Something else new coming to the Surface Pro 9 is color. Different colors won’t just be limited to the detachable keyboard this time around, the tablet itself will also be available in a variety of colors. Those color options include Platinum, Sapphire, Graphite, and Forest. That’s a nice change of pace from the traditional gray.

To celebrate the Surface line’s tenth anniversary, Microsoft has partnered with design studio Liberty to create a special limited edition version of the device’s keyboard. The keyboard will feature a laser-etched blue floral design based on Windows 11’s Bloom wallpaper.

Microsoft also took time to show off the new Surface Laptop 5 and its all-in-one PC — the Surface Studio 2 Plus. Like the Surface Pro, the Surface Laptop 5 will come to stores on October 25 and it will be powered by Intel starting at $999. The Surface Studio 2 Plus will be far more expensive at an eye-popping $4,299 and will come with an RTX 3090 GPU.
