Microsoft to disable Internet Explorer in February 2023

It has been a few months since Microsoft abandoned Internet Explorer, but it still continues to exist on machines running an older version of Windows, and users continue to use it despite all the security concerns. Though, it may not be soon that Internet Explorer ceases to exist for the better. A warning on the support page for Internet Explorer 11 mentions that the browser will be permanently disabled on computers running Windows 11 in February.
“The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application will be permanently disabled on certain versions of Windows 10 as part of the February 2023 Windows security update (“B”) release scheduled for February 14, 2023. We highly recommend setting up IE mode in Microsoft Edge and disabling IE11 prior to this date to ensure your organisation doesn’t experience business disruption.” reads the warning
The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be disabled on 14 February 2023 on Windows 10 and earlier versions of the operating system, with the Windows security update released on the same date. This will be the second phase of Microsoft’s plan for the retirement of Internet Explorer, which began June 15 this year.
Microsoft advises individual users and organisations to disable Internet Explorer before the update arrives and switch to Edge browser. Users can also enable the IE mode on Edge, allowing users to open websites that can only be opened in Internet Explorer.
Earlier this year, Microsoft pulled the plug on Internet Explorer after 27 long years. The browser was first introduced in 1995 as an add-on package for Windows 95, and later it was made available to everyone.
