“Until now, artificial intelligence could read and write, but could not understand the content. The new programs like ChatGPT will make many office jobs more efficient by helping to write invoices or letters. This will change our world,” Gates was quoted as saying by German business daily Handelsblatt.
His comments come four days after he said he was aware of their work better than others. “What OpenAI has done is very, very impressive, and they certainly lead in many aspects of [AI], which people are seeing through the broad availability of ChatGPT,” Forbes quoted Microsoft’s former executive as saying.
“The idea of computers seeing, hearing and writing is the longterm quest of the entire industry. It’s always been super interesting to me. And so as these machine learning techniques started to work extremely well, particularly things for speech and image recognition I’ve been fascinated by how many more inventions we would need before [AI] is really intelligent, in the sense of passing tests and being able to write fluently,” Gates told Forbes.
Microsoft investment in OpenAI
ChatGPT, developed by US firm OpenAI and backed by Microsoft. Last month, Microsoft announced a new multiyear, multi billion-dollar investment in the company. It is rated as the fastest-growing consumer app in history.
Microsoft launches Bing with ChatGPT
Recently, Microsoft launched the ‘new’ Bing search engine that is powered by an ‘upgraded’ version of language model ChatGPT.
“What is it that we should do and what should we build? I think this technology is going to reshape pretty much every software category we know. We have seen three platform shifts that have shaped the web. The web was born on the PC and the server, and then it evolved with mobile and cloud, and now the question is: How is AI going to reshape the web?,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on the sidelines of the launch.
