Microsoft Work Trend Index Pulse report has 3 important tips for managers to boost productivity in hybrid workplaces
Microsoft has released the India findings of its 2022 Work Trend Index Pulse Report. This year the report focuses on hybrid working and tries to gauge the growing disconnect between employees and managers regarding hybrid work and is titled ‘Hybrid Work Is Just Work. Are We Doing It Wrong?’ The report claims that leaders and employees are at odds about what constitutes productivity. It is based on data from a survey done across 11 countries, including in India.
The report lists key challenges that both employees and leaders face while working in a hybrid model and goes on to suggest three measures that leaders can adopt to mitigate the growing disconnect between them and their reportees and increase productivity. These tips to managers are:
End productivity paranoia
The first one is to end productivity paranoia, which is impacting the health and wellbeing of the employees. As per the report, 93% of employees in India say they are productive at work, however, 91% of leaders claim the shift to hybrid work has made it challenging to have confidence in employees being productive. Reportedly, about 50 percent of both employees and (47%) as well as leaders (58%) report that they’re already burnt out at work.
Leaders can take feedback from employees and communicate clearly the company goals in order to make their employees more productive. “Eliminate busywork that doesn’t support those goals and listen to their people. The data shows that only 44% of companies rarely, if ever, collect employee feedback. Only 56% of employees in India can confidently say that their company solicits employee feedback at least once a year,” the report notes.
Motivate employees to come to office
The second way to increase productivity is to motivate employees to come to office not only as per their policy but also for socialising with co-workers and rebuilding bonds post Covid-19 break. “91% of employees in India would be motivated by the promise of socialising with coworkers and 92% by the prospect of rebuilding team bonds,” as per the 2022 Work Trend Index Pulse Report.
Focus on reskilling
Thirdly, the report says employees need to be re-skilled to open more ways for individual growth, especially in a tight labour market such as India. “90% percent of employees in India (versus a global average of 76%) say that they’d stay at their company longer if they could benefit more from learning and development opportunities, revealing a powerful retention tool, the report suggests.
Microsoft recently announced new capabilities in Microsoft Viva – the first integrated employee experience platform for the hybrid work era that allows managers to seek regular feedback. The new capabilities will begin rolling out to customers in early 2023.
