mozilla firefox: Firefox 95 update to add another security layer to protect against cyberattacks – Times of India

Mozilla is claiming that with the new Firefox 95 update, its browser will become the most secure it has ever been. The Firefox 95 update adds a new sandboxing tool to make the browser safe from cyberattack via malicious codes. Mozilla has named the tool ‘RLBox’ and has started the rollout of the tool as part of the Firefox 95 update to the web and mobile browsers, as per a report by Engadget.
For the RLBox sandboxing tool, Mozilla has tied up with the University of California and the University of Texas. While sandboxing is used by some other web browsers too, it is not always effective to hold back the more advanced exploits that can combine two vulnerabilities to go past the browser’s defenses. “With RLBox, Firefox will compile a process into WebAssembly and then convert it into native code. According to Mozilla, this approach presents two significant advantages. It prevents code from jumping between different parts of a program and limits access to specific areas of your system’s memory.”, said the report.
Mozilla will use the tool to isolate five components of Firefox and these include the browser’s Graphite font rendering engine and Ogg multimedia module. The company, however, noted that RLBox cannot protect every component of the Firefox browser such as the modules that depend on sharing memory with the rest of the program to function.
