Netflix gets massive price cuts across the board in India

Netflix has been keen to get more Indian customers on board in recent years, launching a mobile-only plan in the country in 2019 and teaming up with the likes of Jio to offer mobile plans to customers. Now, it’s delivered perhaps its most audacious move yet by offering significant price cuts to the service in India.

The company’s mobile-only plan has gone from Rs 199 (~$2.60) a month to Rs 149 (~$1.90) a month, Money Control reports. Netflix’s basic plan, which offers standard definition streaming on one device at a time, used to cost Rs 499 (~$6.50) a month but will now set you back Rs 199 (~$2.60) instead. In other words, you can get the basic plan for the same price as the mobile-only plan used to be.

Netflix users on the standard plan — which offers HD streaming to two screens at once — will now be paying Rs 499 (~$6.50) a month instead of Rs 649 (~$8.50) a month. As for the top-end premium tier? This plan, which offers 4K streaming to four concurrent devices, has gone from costing Rs 799 (~$10.50) a month to Rs 649 (~$8.50) a month.

Netflix India told Money Control that it will offer an “auto-upgrade” feature for existing members. This will allow subscribers to either choose the better plan at the same price or stick with their current plan at the new lower price. The new pricing will nevertheless kick off from the subscriber’s next billing cycle.
